At Full Council on 18 June, Conservative Councillor for Danesborough Johnny Luk asked Milton Keynes City Council leadership about planned investment in Walnut Tree Surgery, which was highlighted in the Council Plan for 2026/27.

Cllr Luk raised concerns about the growing pressure on healthcare services across Milton Keynes as the city's population continues to expand through major housing developments. In response, Deputy Council Leader Cllr Lauren Townsend confirmed that £900,000 of developer contributions will be invested in upgrading Walnut Tree Surgery, which serves thousands of residents, including those living in newer communities such as Glebe Farm. Improvements include new consulting rooms and a larger waiting area.

Indicative timelines suggest works could be completed approximately 70 weeks after planning approval is secured.

Cllr Luk also urged the Council to continue pressing for additional healthcare provision across Milton Keynes, particularly in light of major national NHS reforms, including changes to Integrated Care Boards and the Government's neighbourhood health programme.

Cllr Luk said: “I welcome this additional investment in Walnut Tree Surgery, which is much needed given the rapid population growth in my ward.

“Despite the dedication of healthcare staff, demand for GP services will continue to rise as more homes are built. If Milton Keynes is to continue growing sustainably, healthcare infrastructure must keep pace. We need to ensure that additional capacity is planned and delivered ahead of demand for the benefit of both existing and future residents, rather than risk falling further behind the curve.”
