The Conservative Group on Milton Keynes City Council would like to thank residents across the city after growing from 9 to 12 councillors in the recent local elections, gaining three seats in a challenging national political climate for Conservatives.

The Conservatives secured around 20% of the vote across Milton Keynes and increased their representation on the Council from 9 to 12 councillors. The Group welcomed four new community-focused councillors and also welcomed back former Mayor of Milton Keynes, Amanda Marlow, who was re-elected in Watling ward after a three-year break from council service.

Together, they will work alongside the wider Conservative team representing residents across the city. Following the local council election, Councillor Shazna Muzammil was re-elected as Leader of the Conservative Group, with Councillor Peter Geary re-elected as Deputy Leader.

Councillor Shazna Muzammil, Leader of the Conservative Group, said: “We are incredibly grateful to every resident who got behind us, opened their doors, spoke to us during the campaign, shared their concerns and placed their trust in us. Growing our group from 9 to 12 councillors and gaining three seats in this political climate is something we are truly proud of, and we could not have done it without the support of residents across Milton Keynes. That’s more of us in the room fighting your corner. ”

She added: “Local politics should always be about residents first. Whether someone voted for us or not, we are here to serve our communities, stand up for residents, and continue fighting for the issues that matter most to our residents. We are proud to welcome five fantastic new councillors who are passionate about their communities and already working hard for residents. ”

The Conservative Group also congratulated both the Liberal Democrats and Reform UK on their election results and thanked all candidates from every party who put themselves forward for public service.

Councillor Muzammil added: “Standing for election is never easy, and everyone who puts themselves forward deserves credit for stepping up to serve their communities. We also congratulate the Liberal Democrats and Reform UK on their success and thank candidates from all parties, including Labour, who stepped forward to serve residents and take part in local democracy. Our focus now is simple, continuing to work hard, support residents, and hold the Council to account where needed. ”
