Fix one pothole, leave the one next to it - Milton Keynes needs a proper plan to fix potholes

pothole in Newport Pagnell

Milton Keynes Conservatives have announced a clear, long-term plan to tackle potholes across the city, combining immediate action with sustained investment to protect roads for the future.

As Milton Keynes has grown, infrastructure hasn’t always kept pace. Too often, the Labour administration, supported by the Liberal Democrats, has focused on building everywhere rather than maintaining what we already have.

Residents across the city have repeatedly raised concerns about the condition of roads, with potholes being a daily frustration for drivers, cyclists and families alike.

Shazna Muzammil, Leader of the Conservative Group on Milton Keynes City Council, said: “Milton Keynes was designed to move with its grid roads, open spaces and well-planned infrastructure. It’s something we should be proud of.
But as the city grows, we are seeing more wear and tear and residents are feeling the impact every day.

”The Conservative plan includes an immediate £1 million investment to begin tackling potholes quickly and efficiently, alongside a commitment to allocate the resources needed to address outstanding defects across the city within six months.

“Too often, potholes are treated in isolation — one is fixed, while the one next to it is left to become a crater. In some cases, repairs take months, even over a year, to be completed properly. That’s frustrating for residents and not good value for money. We want to take a more proactive approach, fixing the problem properly, not just patching it temporarily.”
