1,500+ Residents Speak Out — Tattenhoe Councillors To Deliver Petition to Council

Cllr Verma & Muzammil

Tattenhoe Ward Cllr Shazna Muzammil and Cllr Manish Verma will present a petition signed by more than 1,500 residents at tonight’s Full Council meeting, calling on Milton Keynes City Council to halt plans for a new Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) near Anderson Gate.

Residents are raising serious concerns about the proposed location — the proximity to homes, Giles Brook Primary School, Priory Rise School, a planned children’s play area, and a designated Biodiversity Opportunity Area. The Council has so far failed to carry out full consultation with those most directly affected.

Cllr Shazna Muzammil said:

“Residents are clearly worried. They understand that as our city grows, we will need more recycling facilities — but that doesn’t excuse the Council from being open and transparent about this ‘vision’”.

These are people who’ve put their life savings into buying a family home. Some choose to retire here to enjoy nature and the nearby protected woodlands. To push ahead without proper consultation is simply not right. If they had known about this, many of our residents say they would have bought elsewhere.”

Cllr Manish Verma added:

“This petition is a reflection of the anxiety and frustration felt by our community. Our residents are not opposing progress — they’re asking for fairness, transparency, and respect.
We urge the Council to pause this process, listen to local people, and properly explore alternative locations.”

The petition will be presented at Full Council tonight, Wednesday 18th June, at 7.30pm.
