MK Conservatives team at the Loughton and Shenley by-election count

Conservatives have more than halved the majority of a Labour stronghold seat of Shenley and Loughton Ward, from 337 to 165, with a notable swing towards the Conservatives, showing we are on track to make good progress in the Local Elections and the General Election this year.

It was all smiles during the count for the Conservatives, with Labour activists looking rather less happy with their disappointing result.

Johnny Luk, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Milton Keynes Central, said: "I am very pleased with the result and showed our positive progress. During this by-election, time after time again on the doorstep, I hear local residents' concerns over Labour's intention to over expand Milton Keynes, which is putting pressure on our local services and wiping out our green spaces.

"We are campaigning for infrastructure before expansion to invest in our existing residents while keeping MK green, alongside our policies of attracting businesses and reducing taxes for working people. Our message is cutting through, and we will build on this momentum as we get match fit for further elections to come."

Rajeev Sharma, the by-election Conservative Council Candidate for Shenley and Loughton, said: "I really enjoyed our campaign and want to thank the whole team for their help. I am delighted by our progress in more than halving the majority and getting a swing towards Conservatives, building on a further swing towards us last May when I stood then, too.

"I look forward to the opportunity to fight for this seat again in May and challenging this Labour and Lib Dems Council's unpopular policies."
