Cllr Manish Verma

Councillor Manish Verma, Milton Keynes City Council member for Tattenhoe, has donated the majority of his ward budget to Keeping Kids Off The Streets to support their boxing workshops for young people.

Cllr Verma’s donation will support the running costs and purchasing of equipment for the sessions, which are entirely free for children to attend.

Cllr Verma said “ I, like many parents, are worried about knife crime in our city; it is an issue that we must all come together to tackle.

Conservative councillors had proposed an additional £100k of funding to ensure that all year 5 and 8 children receive education on the dangers and consequences of knife crime but the Labour-Lib Dem Progressive Alliance administration refused to support our request.

The least I can do using my ward budget is help fund this great initiative by KKOTS, which provides our young people, not only a safe space, but also an opportunity to learn skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. I am proud to have played just a small part in supporting this fantastic organisation”.

Keeping Kids Off The Streets said “We are very thankful for Cllr Verma’s generous donation, which will go towards the running costs of offering our free workshops to young people across Milton Keynes. KKOTS began in 2016 as a not-for-profit organisation offering free workshops and training opportunities to all young people across Milton Keynes. In the future, we hope to expand by opening youth clubs in MK and further afield”
