It is time to invest seriously in our infrastructure, says Local Conservatives

Milton Keynes is starting to show the impacts and wear and tear of its 56 years.

To address and tackle this decay head on local Conservatives will be looking to amend the MK City Council budget for 2023/24 to allow the council to commission an all-encompassing evaluation of the outstanding maintenance requirement across the public realm.

This review would produce an inventory of necessary repairs and maintenance to include roads, footpaths, redways and street furniture alongside any ongoing maintenance projects.

In recent years, the Progressive Alliance have sought to address much needed maintenance issues through a sticking plaster approach that has only allowed for only temporary fixes rather than the much-needed large scale regeneration of our city’s public realm infrastructure.

As MK continues to grow, it is essential that this council moves away from this economically and practically inefficient strategy and gets a real grip of the maintenance required to keep Milton Keynes safe and functionable. This can only be achieved by committing to a thorough review and producing a proactive, realistic forward plan that can ensure that MKCC invest in the right areas to consistently prioritise, upgrade and reenergise our Milton Keynes.

Cllr James Lancaster said “As our city begins to show its age, we believe the Council needs to commit to comprehensive regeneration. This is necessary, first and foremost, for the safety of our residents but also for the upkeep and protection of our beautiful green spaces. We are proposing to MKCC that they take the time to establish a long-term approach to this work to ensure resources are dedicated in the right places and kickstart an active strategy that is followed for years to come”

MK Conservative Group believe our residents deserve a city to be proud of and ask the Progressive Alliance to take up this commitment to ensuring our city gets the ‘fit for a King spring clean’ it deserves.
